Calculation methods for spur gears with symmetrical and asymmetrical teeth
Keywords:
Gears, plastics, LewisAbstract
Plastic spur gears are employed today in many fields of industry. For mechanical engineers, plastic gears are a powerful means of cutting drive cost, weight, noise, and wear.Plastic gears also open new opportunities for smaller, more efficient transmissions in many products. The main failure of these gears is bending fracture and there are several calculation methods for avoid or diminish this failure. Bending stress evaluation in modern
gear design is generally based on the more-than-one hundred- year-old Lewis equation with different modifications. A comparison among today’s calculation methods is made at this paper. A new Method base on Finite Element Method is proposed.
