Abstract

This paper shows the design of an experimental laboratory for the cultivation of macroalgae Ulva lactuca Linnaeus. The experimental study is the initial stage of a project for reducing industrial emissions of Carbon Dioxide by capturing in seaweeds intensive culture systems. The bioreaction system comprises a culture tank with continuous feeding of sea water, air and nutrients. System assessment is performed by determining the algal biomass yield and bioreactor system behavior, based on the consumption of nutrients. From the results a scale up for a pilot scale culture of seaweeds is performed.
