Abstract

Photovoltaic generation is considered an environmentally advantageous alternative overconventional energy sources. Although Cuba's energy system is fundamentally based on oil, advances are made in usage of these technologies. This paper objective is to propose an opportunity study of photovoltaic systems connected to grid in COPEXTEL Cienfuegos Territorial Division (DTCC) in order to reduce electricity consumption. PVsyst and RETScreen, design and simulation software for renewable energy systems are used. The profitability for the photovoltaic park in the roof area connected to the grid with internal loads and a total installed nominal power of 150 kW, was determined. The savings for DTCC could be of 2.86 million CUC and about 155 TCO2 are no longer delivered annually, demonstrating economic and environmental benefits. The opportunity to install a photovoltaic park connected to grid to cover the electricity demand is verified.
