Abstract

The process of concentration and centralization of the sugar industry in Cuba conditioned the development of this economic branch. In the municipality of Quemado de Güines, such branch has been the main economic activity practically since its founding, so its study and analysis deserves to be updated at times of major changes in the sector in this 21stcentury. The scope and impact of this process in the municipality have been the basis for the enrichment of local history. The analysis of the different sources of historical knowledge, those of national and local content, made it possible to understand that the phenomenon evaluated was characterized by four well-defined stages from the end of the 19th century to the present. Stages that present common features in the national context, but with distinctive elements in the territorial one. The objective of the article is to substantiate such process in Quemado de Güines.
