DETERMINATION OF THE MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF A SINGLE TYPE MOLDING MIX WITH REFRACTORY ELEMENTS
Keywords:
bentonite, refractory elements, molding mixtureAbstract
Introduction:
In the Mechanical Plant “Fabric Aguilar Noriega”, the manufacture of parts as a result of casting has decreased notably in recent years, although it is still one of the main forms of production. In the molding process, mixtures are used that vary in their properties and composition, according to the intended use, such as MC-3, MCE-4 (Large steel pieces), MR-1 (single mixture), this last mixture is composed of bentonite and molasses, as binders, together with the silica sand.
Objective:
To perform a characterization of a unique type molding mixture with the use of refractory additives, products of the grinding of chamotte bricks, discarded in the repairs of the company's furnaces.
Materials and Methods:
In order to carry out this work, a design of experiment was carried out, taking into account the main materials, silica sand and bentonite, and substituting molasses for the refractory element.
Results and Discussion:
The results of the experiments showed that the mixture with the best properties is the one with a refractory-bentonite ratio (1:9). A real test was carried out with this mixture, using an aluminum alloy, where an excellent result was observed.
Conclusions:
The main conclusion is that from the results obtained, it can be stated as a fact that molasses can be substituted by refractory elements for certain types of alloys, in this case aluminum.
