Abstract

The energy crisis and environmental pollution have led to alternative sources  investigation in order to reduce mineral lubricants use. Vegetable oils are biodegradable
and less harmful to environment, so they are considered as an alternative for  biolubricants production. Today one of the most studied vegetable oils to replace fossil
fuels and mineral lubricants, is Jatropha curcas oil. This work aims to determine the  aerobic biodegradability of Jatropha curcas oil and a bio-fat formulated using modified  Sturm test (OECD) and respirometric method. Jatropha curcas oil had a  biodegradability of 39 % and it is 32.6 %, for the bio-fat formulated, so they are
classified immediately as non-biodegradable.
