CONTROL OF POLLUTION BY HYDROCARBONS IN COASTAL AREAS WITH INCIDENCE OF OIL ACTIVITY
Keywords:

The Cuban oil industry has several facilities located near the coastline zone, so there is a high risk of contamination by oil hydrocarbons in the receiving marine bodies related to them. The objective of this work is to determine and characterize the present hydrocarbons in marine sediments coming from three bays of national interest
associated to fuel trading companies: Matanzas, Nuevitas and Nipe bays. These results will allow the identification and application of measures that minimize or eliminate the contamination that could be generated. The obtained results indicate, in greater or minor amount, the significant presence of hydrocarbons that have their origin in petroleum; in some cases a high degree of degradation was observed. In general, there is a trend towards a decrease in hydrocarbon concentration levels with respect those obtained in preceding studies.
