Abstract

In the year 2011 the dioxide of sulfur (SO2) represented the biggest emission of pollutants to the atmo-sphere for the fixed sources in the county of Villa Clara, where the entities consumers of Fuel half and heavy Oil was the responsible maxims due to the high% of sulfur in this fuel. The objectives of this work have been to quantify the polluting load of the SO2 emitted by the main fixed sources, to determine the% that represents these emissions of the total of the county, municipalities, organisms and for consumption of fuel, to calculate the Index of Quality of the Air (ICA) and to propose possible measures of reduction of the emission. The method applied to determine the emission of SO2 was through FE of AP-42, of the USEPA and the evaluation of the ICA was carried out through the modulation of the dispersion of the pollutant with the software ISCST3 Version 3,15 of the USEPA. The results show that the polluting load of the SO2 for the referred sources was of 578.69 t, 85.29% of the county, more polluting organism the MINAZ with 39.14% of the load and 20% of the sources. The ICA was Good, Faulty, Bad, Terrible and Critic in the territories. With the application of the proposals of measures to increase the energy efficiency can decrease the consumption of fuel of a 3 - 5% (311.62 t) and the emission in 30.95 t, favoring the costs of the entities and propitiating the elevation of the ICA on the affected population areas.
