Abstract

The development of sugarcane as a major crop in Iran has allowed the establishment of a Breeding Program that requires of a set of environments to make efficient the process for new cultivar selection. The Sugarcane Research And Training Institute has implemented a group of environments for seedling selection. The objective of the present work was to verify the functionality for the clonal selection stage of this experimental network. In order to fulfill this goal, it were planted 15 representatives combinations of the crossing program in three experimental sites and they were evaluated during two crops cycles (six environments). The analysis of variance showed the requirements of more than one environment for percentage of recoverable sugar and sugar production for an effective clonal selection reducing the high environmental effect. It was confirmed the functionality of the network and it was proposed two alternatives for their optimization in function of the available resources.
