Abstract

This paper presents the environmental assessment of three options for material and  energy recovery from urban solid waste, namely, biogas generation, and fuel fraction  combustion and gasification. It was based on Bío Bío Region (Chile) conditions,  through a life cycle approach and ReCiPe model, using primary data. It is concluded  that the energy and materials recovery significantly reduces the impacts in all the  evaluated categories.
