Abstract

The multiple uses of the bagasse can limit the readiness of that material for their employment as biosorbent of low cost. In the face of this concern, it becomes necessary to enlarge the removal study of coloring, with the employment of other biosorbents that can substitute to the bagasse for this purpose. In this work, thewooden sawdust of Pinus caribaea is applied for the removal of a basic coloring (methylene blue ) in breakup, as model system of liquid effluents containing this type of polluting species, reason why one has for objective to evaluate the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters that characterize the behavior of the wooden sawdust of Pinus caribaea like biosorbente. The pH pcc for sawdust Pinus obtained caribaea has a value of 5, 89 what indicates an acid behavior. The equilibrium data were found to be better represented by the Langmuir model , the monolayer saturation sorption is the predominant phenomenon. To determine the biosorción kinetics the models of pseudo-first order of Lagergren, pseudo-second order they were used. The pattern of pseudo second order describes the behavior of the system better. To estimate the effect of temperature on the adsorption of methylene blue on sawdust, the free energy change (ÄGæ%), enthalpy change (ÄHæ%), and entropy change (ÄSæ%) were determined. The increase of the temperature exercises a negative influence, is the studied process because the process is exothermic, as it is corroborated when obtaining values of the variation of enthalpy smaller than zero.
