Biomass thermo-conversion by pyrolysis. Trends in research and development
Keywords:
biomass, pyrolysis, thermo-conversionAbstract
In this paper is studied the state of the art in order to identify the main trends in research and development in the processes of thermo-conversion of biomass by pyrolysis into fuels and other chemicals. Research on
pyrolysis of biomass, worldwide, point to the wood waste, forestry, organic waste and bagasse as raw materials with the best future. In Cuba, the fundamental inclinations are directed towards the use of sugarcane bagasse and straw, wood and agricultural wastes not only because they represent the main supplies recognized otherwise the insufficient research in the pyrolysis of other biomass. The investigation conducted on the pyrolysis of biomass reflects the complexity of the process especially since they get hundreds of intermediate and uncertain environmental performance so that the research and development should be directed towards optimizing and explain variations in behavior between raw materials, the process parameters and operating range to make it technically and economically competitive. Despite the known benefits and promising future of fast pyrolysis, in the country, there has been few research on the liquid products obtained in this way. It was identified research gaps and dispersion in kinetic studies of the production of liquid fuels in deciding their production technologies.
