APPLICATION OF RISK-BASED MAINTENANCE TO EQUIPMENT OF THE “JOSÉ MARÍA PÉREZ CAPOTE” AGROINDUSTRIAL SUGAR COMPANY
Keywords:
Sugar agribusiness, risk based maintenance, risk priority numberAbstract
Introduction:
Risk treatment actions (maintenance tasks) selection to be applied to the productive equipment in companies has been a topic that has become very popular nowadays.
Objective:
To develop a procedure for the implementation of the risk-based maintenance system for equipment in “José María Pérez Capote” Agroindustrial Sugar Company.
Materials and Methods:
Several methods and tools were used in this research, such as: documentary review and literature study analysis; criticality analysis for equipment selection; observation, unstructured interview and failure mode and effects analysis for risk identification; and group dynamics for decision making (risk assessment and treatment).
Results and Discussion:
The fundamental result of this research lies in the proposed procedure design, which, through the integration of a group of techniques, allows to establish the general bases for the implementation of the risk-based maintenance system in the company, seeking to improve the performance of the equipment under analysis.
Conclusions:
The implementation of the designed procedure allowed defining the maintenance tasks focused on mitigating the risk levels associated with the failure modes that may have the greatest incidence on the performance of the selected equipment. Also as estimating the degree of improvement that can be achieved in the risk priority number associated with these failure modes after the treatment actions have been implemented.
